Nairobi, December 14th, 2017: The Karen Hospital’s Heart to Heart Foundation has been lauded for enabling hundreds of children from less privileged families undergo open heart surgeries.
Former Chairman of the Kenya Revenue Authority Board of Directors, Major (Rtd) Marsden Madoka noted that the medical charity foundation has over the years raised funds which have assisted more than 400 beneficiaries undergo open heart surgeries, in the process giving the young ones a second lease of life.
“This year alone, 12 beneficiaries were able to undergo open heart surgeries, thanks to your generous contributions! So far the foundation has been able to provide open heart surgeries to more than 400 beneficiaries,” he stated.
The cost of conducting an open heart surgery ranges from approximately Ksh 350,000 to Ksh 1.3million and therefore out of reach for many families.
He made the remarks during the foundation’s Annual Gala Dinner held at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi on Thursday, December 14th, 2017.
“I am proud of The Karen Hospital for initiating the Heart to Heart Foundation and remaining resilient for 24 years in ensuring that these children grow into respected men and women in the society,” he added.
The event was attended by the foundation’s founders Dr. Betty and Dan Gikonyo, Dr. James J Mageria, Executive Director, Mrs Juliet Nyaga, representatives from corporate organizations, schools, and teachers.’
Maj (Rtd) Madoka, who is a former trustee of the foundation urged corporate organizations to support the foundation saying such support was necessary to uplift the society.
The open heart surgeries, he noted, had been made possible through the continuous selfless giving by corporate organizations, schools, foundations and individuals. The foundation’s teams, leaders and volunteers have also contributed to the success of the program.
Every year, the foundation organizes various events to raise funds to meet the costs of the surgeries. These events are; the Annual Gala Dinner, The Karen Hospital Heart Run and the Goat Derby.
