About UsOn March 31, 2006, The Karen Hospital opened its doors to the Kenyan Public. This was the culmination of a noble idea that was conceived by two Black African Doctors, Betty Muthoni Gikonyo and Dan Kibuka Gikonyo both USA trained Cardiologists who carried the welfare of the Kenyan people in their hearts. This was the first tertiary hospital built by indigenous Kenyans since in the pre- and post independence era. The Karen Hospital is located in Karen, a name which many will recognize as the setting for the movie, “Out of Africa,'' which told the story of author Isak Dinesen, who used the pen name Karen Blixen, and who lived and worked in Kenya and wrote about Kenya and her love for it. Inpatient ServicesThe Karen Hospital Inpatient Department is managed at the Admissions and Discharges desk located at the main reception area of the Hospital. Here our clients get different services which include customer care, admission procedures, transfers, discharges and general administration work. Cardiac ServicesThe Karen hospital has the greatest advantage in infrastructure for cardiac treatment. Our personnel are highly trained. We have over 3 decades of experience in taking care of heart patients. We have ensured that at the Karen Hospital from the onset we had a well organized cardiac infrastructure. Our training of both our nurses in cath lab as well as open heart surgery and ICU ensures that we can take care of the cardiac patient from simple diagnosis of an ECG to an echocardiography through cath lab, cath lab diagnosis intervention and those that who require surgery, open heart surgery, valve replacement, defect closure and coronary bypass surgery. Outpatient ServicesThe Karen Hospital Outpatient Services are offered at the Accident and Emergency Centre our satellite clinics in Nairobi CBD Chester house 2nd floor, Nyeri and Nakuru We offer excellent diagnostic and treatment services which include lab tests, imaging, physiotherapy and pharmacy services. Surgical ServicesThe Karen Hospital takes pride in the highly established and specialized medical facilities that have enabled the hospital to excel in healthcare. Our ultra modern operation rooms are equipped to handle all major and minor operations, emergencies and trauma procedures especially due to the spacious size of the operation rooms. We have invested in state of the art diagnostic and treatment facilities and equipment that allow our qualified staff to carry out the procedures with ease.
